Every fundraising conversation I have with event organizations eventually circles back to the same worry: what happens between campaigns? A gala or a year-end appeal can bring in a strong one-time gift, but once that spike passes, the revenue picture goes quiet again. For a nonprofit trying to plan a budget, or a theater trying to fund a season, that unpredictability makes it hard to commit to anything beyond the next event.
That’s the problem we wanted to solve by integrating a Recurring (Monthly) Donations feature directly into TicketSearch. Instead of asking supporters to give once and hoping they come back, organizations can offer a monthly option at checkout, and TicketSearch handles the billing, the donor communication, and the reporting behind it. In this article, I’ll walk through why one-time giving creates so much administrative strain, how the feature works, and how organizations of different sizes can put it to use.
The Problem With One-Time-Only Giving
Many smaller organizations face the same pattern: donations arrive in bursts around specific appeals, then taper off. Between those bursts, staff are often left rebuilding momentum from scratch rather than building on what already exists. A donor who gave generously in December has no easy way to keep giving in February unless someone remembers to ask again.
For an organization selling under 500 tickets a month, this matters even more. A single monthly gift, multiplied across a modest base of committed donors, can smooth out the gaps between ticketed events far more reliably than chasing one-time gifts. For a small theater or performing arts organization, the same idea applies to sustaining members and season supporters, not just formal fundraising campaigns. And for larger venues running booster or friends-of-the-organization programs, disconnected donation tracking makes it difficult to see, at a glance, who is actually renewing month over month.
Without a system built for recurring donations, organizations end up managing it manually: re-billing cards by hand, chasing failed payments, and reconciling donor records in a spreadsheet that lives outside the ticketing platform. That’s real staff time spent on administration instead of donor relationships.
How Recurring Donations Work in TicketSearch
- A choice built into checkout. At checkout, donors are presented with a clear option to Give Once or give Monthly. Selecting Monthly unlocks suggested amounts, the ability to enter a custom amount, and the option to cover the transaction fee themselves, so the organization keeps more of the gift.
- Built on Stripe, alongside your existing setup. Recurring donation processing is powered by Stripe, a secure and widely trusted payment platform. This runs alongside your existing payment gateway rather than requiring you to replace it. For government organizations or others with banking restrictions on direct card processing, TicketSearch can process the donations through our merchant account and transfer the funds to your organization on a monthly basis.
- Donor self-service. Donors aren’t locked into a commitment they can’t manage. They can pause, update, or cancel a recurring donation at any time through their own online profile, without having to call or email your office.
- Visibility for staff. Because recurring donations run through the same platform as ticketing, staff can track donations, donor history, and the next scheduled donation run date from one dashboard, rather than a separate donor management tool. Automated email notifications flag successful, failed, or cancelled donations as they happen, so a declined card doesn’t quietly turn into a lapsed donor.
- Reporting that shows what’s coming. Because each donor’s schedule is tracked in TicketSearch, reporting can show what recurring revenue is already committed for the month ahead, not just what has already come in. That’s a meaningfully different planning tool than a one-time-gift total.

Benefits and Outcomes
- A steadier revenue stream. Instead of reconstructing monthly donation totals from a spreadsheet, staff can see committed recurring revenue directly in the platform. Industry research on recurring donations generally points toward stronger donor lifetime value and better retention than one-time gifts alone; TicketSearch is designed to help organizations capture that pattern rather than lose it to friction at checkout.
- Reduced administrative work. Because billing, retries on failed payments, and cancellation requests are handled within the platform, staff spend less time manually re-running cards or updating a separate donor spreadsheet.
- Stronger donor loyalty. A donor who can manage their own giving, pause it during a lean month, adjust the amount, or cover the fee themselves, tends to stay engaged longer than one who has to go through staff for every change.
- Better data quality. Because recurring donation activity lives in the same customer record as ticket purchases, organizations get a fuller picture of how a supporter engages, not just as a donor, but as an attendee.

Let’s Talk About Your Donation Program
I’ve worked with organizations ranging from small community nonprofits to larger event venues, and the question I hear most often isn’t whether recurring donations work. It’s how to set it up without adding more work to an already stretched team. If that’s where you are, I’d like to hear about your organization’s donation program and show you how TicketSearch’s Recurring Donations feature could fit it.
Schedule a meeting with me directly, and we’ll walk through your current setup and what a connected recurring donations program could look like for your organization.
